About this tool
What the Workers’ Comp Settlement Calculator does
Many US workers’ compensation systems pay permanent partial disability (PPD) as a number of weeks, based on the impairment rating, at a compensation rate of around two-thirds of average weekly wage, subject to a state maximum. Settlements often add an amount for future medical care.
It also works as a workers comp settlement calculator.
Formula
- Weekly rate = average weekly wage × compensation rate (capped at the state maximum)
- Weeks = scheduled weeks × impairment rating
- Award = weekly rate × weeks; settlement = award + future medical
Worked example
Using the starting values in the calculator above:
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Average weekly wage | $1,000 |
| Compensation rate | 66.67% |
| State maximum weekly benefit | $1,200 |
| Impairment rating | 10% |
| Weeks for 100% (body part or whole person) | 500 |
| Future medical allowance | $15,000 |
| Attorney fee | 15% |
| Result | Value |
|---|---|
| Estimated settlement value | $48,335 |
| Permanent disability award | $33,335 |
| Weekly compensation rate | $666.70 |
| Weeks of benefit | 50.0 |
| After attorney fee on the award | $43,335 |
How to read the result
States calculate PPD very differently; some use wage loss rather than impairment. Treat this as a structure for discussion.
Settling future medical care closes that part of the claim, so estimate long-term treatment carefully.
