Custom AI Development
Custom is the right answer less often than agencies like to admit. When it genuinely is, this is careful engineering rather than a demo dressed up as a product.

First, whether you need it
The most useful thing we do in an early conversation is sometimes to talk you out of a custom build. Off-the-shelf software is cheaper, arrives sooner and is somebody else’s job to maintain. If a product covers eighty per cent of your requirement, adapting the remaining twenty per cent of your process is usually the better trade.
Custom makes sense when the process is genuinely your competitive advantage, when no product fits without distorting how you work, or when the data cannot leave your control. We will tell you which category you are in before you spend anything.
Scoped small, built in the open
Bespoke projects fail by being too ambitious at the start. We scope to the smallest version that delivers something real, build that, put it in front of the people who will use it, and decide the next piece from what we learn. You see working software early and often rather than a status report.
That approach also means you can stop at any point and still own something useful, which is not true of a long build that only delivers at the end.
Evaluated, not just demonstrated
A demo proves a thing can work once. Before anything goes live we build an evaluation set from your real cases, including the awkward ones, and measure against it. When we change a prompt, a model or a rule, we re-run that set so you can see whether it actually improved or simply changed.
Where the system is uncertain, it says so and defers to a person. Confidence handling is part of the design rather than something added after the first bad output.
Built for handover
We write the code, the tests and the documentation as though someone else will maintain it, because eventually someone will. Mainstream languages and frameworks, no private tooling, the repository in your organisation from the first commit. If you hire an internal team later, they inherit something readable.
Where the result needs a public face, we build it on the same foundations as our web development work, and where it needs to reach customers conversationally we pair it with an AI chatbot.

Why it matters
What Custom AI Development actually changes for your business
An honest answer on build versus buy
If a product covers your need, we say so. We recommend custom only where it genuinely fits.
Smallest useful version first
Scoped so you see working software early and can stop at any point still owning something valuable.
Measured against real cases
An evaluation set built from your own awkward examples, re-run on every change, so we demonstrate improvement rather than claiming it.
Uncertainty has a path
Where the system is not confident it defers to a person, by design rather than as an afterthought.
Readable by your next developer
Mainstream technology, tests and documentation written for whoever inherits it.
Your repository from day one
The code lives in your organisation from the first commit.
How it works
From first call to measurable result
- 01
Assessment
We look at whether an existing product would do. If one would, we tell you, and the engagement may stop there.
- 02
Scoping
We define the smallest version that delivers real value and agree what success looks like in terms you can check.
- 03
Evaluation set
We collect your real cases, including the difficult ones, and agree how the system will be measured before we build it.
- 04
Build
Delivered in increments you review, with tests and documentation written alongside rather than afterwards.
- 05
Handover
Repository, documentation, deployment and a recorded walkthrough, followed by a support window.
Questions
Custom AI Development — your questions answered
Costs, timelines and what happens after we hand over.
Still not sure?
Ask us anything on a free 30-minute call. No pitch, no obligation.
Usually you do not. If a product covers most of your requirement, adapting your process is normally cheaper and faster. We give you that assessment before you commit to a build.
We build an evaluation set from your real cases and measure against it on every change. Where the system is not confident, it defers to a person rather than guessing.
Scoping to the smallest useful version means you find that out early and still own something working. You can stop between increments.
You do, from the first commit. The repository sits in your organisation and uses mainstream technology any competent developer can pick up.
No. That is the point of mainstream tooling, tests and documentation written for a successor. If you build an internal team, they inherit something readable.
Yes. Working in your repository with your review process is usually the smoothest arrangement and makes handover trivial.
