Business Tools

Sign PDF Online and Request Signatures

Draw, type or upload a signature and place it on any page, or send a private 24-hour link that collects a signature with a full audit trail.

  • Links expire in 24 hours
  • Private files, deleted automatically

The tool

Choose whether to sign a document yourself, which never leaves your device, or to send someone a link to sign.

Loading the tool…

Files and details entered here are stored on our server so the link can work. Links stop accepting visitors after 24 hours, and everything, including files, responses and signed copies, is deleted 7 days after that. Tokens travel only in the part of the link after the # sign, which browsers do not send to servers, and we store only fingerprints of them.

What this tool checks

  • Reads your PDF in the browser and lists its pages so you can choose where the signature goes
  • Refuses password-protected or damaged PDFs rather than producing a broken file
  • Embeds the signature, an optional printed name and the date as a single image on the page you choose
  • For requests, records the signer name, email, phone, IP address, browser and times
  • Fingerprints the original and the signed file with SHA-256 so any later change can be detected
  • Appends a signature certificate page summarising who signed, when and how

How to read the results

  1. Signing yourself: open the PDF, sign, choose the page and position, then download. The file never leaves your device.
  2. Requesting: upload the PDF and send the link. Save the private dashboard link, because it is shown only once.
  3. When someone signs, the dashboard shows their details and lets you download their signed copy and the audit trail.
  4. Compare fingerprints: if the SHA-256 of a copy someone sends you matches the one in the audit trail, it is the same file.

About this tool

Two ways to sign

Sign a document yourself when you have been sent a PDF and need to return it signed. You open the file, draw, type or upload your signature, choose the page and position and download the result. All of it happens in your browser using the open-source pdf-lib library. The document is not uploaded anywhere, which you can confirm in your browser network tab.

Request a signature when someone else needs to sign. You upload the PDF, add a title and a short message, and get a private link to send. The person opening it gives their name, email and phone number, reads the document, signs it and returns a signed copy. You see each response on a private dashboard.

What a simple electronic signature is

A simple electronic signature is any electronic indication that a person agrees to a document: a drawn mark, a typed name or a clicked confirmation. Laws such as the ESIGN Act and UETA in the United States and the eIDAS Regulation in the European Union accept that a signature cannot be refused legal effect just because it is electronic. They also recognise stronger forms. eIDAS defines advanced and qualified electronic signatures, which rely on verified identities and certificates, and only a qualified signature is automatically treated as equivalent to a handwritten one across the EU.

This tool produces a simple electronic signature with a good audit trail. That is appropriate for everyday agreements such as quotes, proposals, delivery confirmations, consent forms and internal approvals. Some documents, such as property transfers, wills, certain financial and regulated documents, may legally require a witnessed, notarised or qualified signature. If you are unsure, ask a lawyer before relying on any electronic signature.

The audit trail

Evidence matters more than the drawing itself. When someone signs through a request link, the server records:

  • the name, email and phone number they entered, and that they agreed to share them;
  • when they opened the link and when the signed file reached the server;
  • their IP address and browser identification;
  • the SHA-256 fingerprint of the document you sent and of the signed copy.

The signed PDF also gains a certificate page listing the document, the signer and the method. A SHA-256 fingerprint is a 64-character value computed from every byte of a file. Change one character and the fingerprint changes completely, so it is a practical way to show that the copy in front of you is the one that was signed.

Privacy and who can see what

When you sign a document yourself, nothing is sent to us. When you request a signature, the PDF and the details people enter are stored on our server so the link can work. The link stops accepting signers after 24 hours, and the document, the responses and the signed copies are deleted automatically a few days after that, as stated on this page. Only two parties can see the responses: you, through your private dashboard link, and the administrator of this website. Links contain random tokens that are never written to our logs, and we store only fingerprints of them.

Before you send a link, make sure you have the right to share the document and that the recipient expects it. Signers are told who created the link before they enter anything.

How we prevent abuse

Only PDF files are accepted, and only up to a fixed size. Each address can create a limited number of links per day, forms carry an invisible trap for automated spam, and every link expires on its own. The site administrator can close or delete any link. If you receive a link you did not expect, do not enter your details, and tell us through the contact page.

Limits and honest caveats

  • This is a simple electronic signature. It is not a qualified or advanced electronic signature backed by a certificate authority.
  • Placement uses a scale outline of the page rather than a rendered image, so check the downloaded PDF before sending it on.
  • Rotated pages are placed using the page size before rotation.
  • Password-protected PDFs cannot be signed until you save an unprotected copy.
  • Requests stop accepting signers after 24 hours, and all files and details are deleted a few days later, as stated on this page.
  • Email notifications depend on the server mail setup. The dashboard link shown on screen always works, even if an email does not arrive.

What people use it for

  • Getting a quote or proposal signed by a client the same day
  • Collecting a signed consent or release form before an appointment
  • Signing a PDF someone emailed you without printing and scanning it
  • Confirming delivery or completion of work with a dated signature
  • Recording internal approvals with a clear, fingerprinted trail
  • Creating a transparent PNG of your signature for your own documents

Questions

Questions about this tool

The things clients actually want to know — costs, timelines, ownership and what happens after launch.

In most countries an electronic signature cannot be rejected just for being electronic, under laws such as the ESIGN Act, UETA and eIDAS. Some documents need a qualified, witnessed or notarised signature, so check with a lawyer for anything regulated.

No. Self-signing runs entirely in your browser, and the file is never sent to our server.

It accepts signers for 24 hours. The document, responses and signed copies are deleted automatically a few days later, as stated on this page.

We email it to you when the link is created. If that email does not arrive and you did not save the link, the responses cannot be recovered by anyone except the site administrator.

The signed copy is built in the signer browser. The audit trail records the fingerprint of the document you sent and of the copy returned, so any difference is visible.

Yes. Printed names, dates and the certificate page are drawn by the browser, so any script is reproduced correctly in the PDF.
