Base64 Decoder and Encoder
Handles accented and non-Latin text correctly, which many simple implementations do not.
- Runs in your browser
- Nothing uploaded
The tool
Paste text or Base64 and choose a direction.
Everything you enter stays on your own machine. Nothing is sent to us or to anyone else, which you can confirm in your browser network tab.
What people use it for
- Decoding a Base64 field in an API response
- Encoding a small image as a data URI
- Inspecting the payload portion of a token
- Moving text safely through a system that mangles special characters
- Checking that an encoded value round-trips correctly
About this tool
What Base64 is for
Base64 represents binary data using only printable characters, so it can travel through channels that expect text: email attachments, data URIs, JSON fields and HTTP headers among them.
What it is not
Base64 is not encryption. It encodes, and anyone can reverse it in seconds, with no key involved. Storing a password in Base64 stores it in plain text with an extra step. If something needs protecting, it needs encrypting.
Unicode handling
A common implementation mistake calls the browser encoder directly, which fails on any character outside Latin-1. This tool converts to UTF-8 first, so accented characters, Arabic, Chinese and emoji all round-trip correctly.
Whitespace and line breaks
Base64 from an email header or a certificate often arrives wrapped across lines. The tool strips whitespace before decoding, so you can paste it exactly as you found it rather than joining the lines by hand first.

Questions
Questions about this tool
The things clients actually want to know — costs, timelines, ownership and what happens after launch.
No. It is an encoding with no key, reversible by anyone instantly. Never use it to protect anything.
Most call the browser encoder directly, which fails outside Latin-1. This converts to UTF-8 first, so all scripts work.
Not here. This handles text. Encoding a file is better done with a command line tool.
Base64 uses four characters for every three bytes, so output is about a third larger. That is inherent to the format.
No. Your browser handles both encoding and decoding.
