About this tool

What the Workers’ Comp Settlement Calculator does

Many US workers’ compensation systems pay permanent partial disability (PPD) as a number of weeks, based on the impairment rating, at a compensation rate of around two-thirds of average weekly wage, subject to a state maximum. Settlements often add an amount for future medical care.

It also works as a workers comp settlement calculator.

Formula

  • Weekly rate = average weekly wage × compensation rate (capped at the state maximum)
  • Weeks = scheduled weeks × impairment rating
  • Award = weekly rate × weeks; settlement = award + future medical

Worked example

Using the starting values in the calculator above:

Input Value
Average weekly wage $1,000
Compensation rate 66.67%
State maximum weekly benefit $1,200
Impairment rating 10%
Weeks for 100% (body part or whole person) 500
Future medical allowance $15,000
Attorney fee 15%
Result Value
Estimated settlement value $48,335
Permanent disability award $33,335
Weekly compensation rate $666.70
Weeks of benefit 50.0
After attorney fee on the award $43,335

How to read the result

States calculate PPD very differently; some use wage loss rather than impairment. Treat this as a structure for discussion.

Settling future medical care closes that part of the claim, so estimate long-term treatment carefully.
