About this tool
What the OEE and TPM Loss Calculator does
Overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) multiplies availability (running time vs planned time), performance (actual speed vs ideal) and quality (good units vs total). Total productive maintenance (TPM) programmes use it to rank the losses that matter most.
It also works as a tpm loss analysis calculator or a OEE calculator.
Formula
- Availability = run time ÷ planned time
- Performance = (ideal cycle time × total units) ÷ run time
- Quality = good units ÷ total units
- OEE = availability × performance × quality
Worked example
Using the starting values in the calculator above:
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Planned production time | 480 minutes |
| Downtime (breakdowns, setups) | 47 minutes |
| Ideal cycle time | 1 seconds per unit |
| Total units produced | 19,271 |
| Good units | 18,848 |
| Result | Value |
|---|---|
| OEE | 65.4% |
| Largest loss | Performance |
| Availability | 90.2% |
| Performance | 74.2% |
| Quality | 97.8% |
How to read the result
An OEE of 85% is widely called world class; many plants start around 60%.
Use the same definitions for planned time and ideal cycle time across lines, or OEE comparisons become meaningless.
