About this tool
What the Tip Calculator does
Working out a tip is simple percentages, but splitting the bill and deciding whether to tip on the pre-tax amount adds steps. This calculator does all of it and can round each person’s share up to a whole amount.
Formula
- Tip = (bill − tax if tipping before tax) × tip %
- Total = bill + tip
- Each = total ÷ people (rounded up if chosen)

How to read the result
Tipping customs vary by country. In the US, 15% to 20% at sit-down restaurants is usual; elsewhere a service charge may already be included.
Check the bill for an included service charge before adding a tip.
