About this tool
What the Settlement Payout Calculator does
A settlement figure is not what the injured person takes home. Attorney fees, case costs and repayment of liens from health insurers or medical providers come out first. Negotiating lien reductions can add significantly to the net amount.
Formula
- Fee = settlement × fee %
- Liens paid = liens × (1 − reduction)
- Net = settlement − fee − costs − liens − other
Worked example
