About this tool
What the Statute of Limitations Calculator does
A statute of limitations sets the time within which a lawsuit must be filed. The period usually starts when the claim arises or is discovered and can be paused (tolled) in some situations, such as when the injured person is a minor. Missing the deadline usually ends the claim.
It also works as a statute of limitations tracker or a limitation period calculator.
Formula
- Deadline = start date + limitation period + tolling days
- Days remaining = deadline − today
Worked example
Using the starting values in the calculator above:
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Date the period starts | 2025-06-15 |
| Limitation period | 2 years |
| Tolling or extension | 0 days |
| Result | Value |
|---|---|
| Estimated filing deadline | 2027-06-15 |
| Days remaining from today | 243 |
| Status | Time remaining |
How to read the result
Limitation periods vary by claim type and jurisdiction, and court rules can affect whether a deadline falling on a weekend or holiday moves. Always confirm the exact deadline with a lawyer.
Some claims against government bodies require a formal notice within a much shorter period, sometimes months.
General information only, not legal advice. Laws and court practice vary by jurisdiction; consult a qualified lawyer.
