About this tool
What the Plumbing Job Pricing Calculator does
Flat-rate pricing quotes a fixed price per task instead of charging by the hour. The price is built from the expected labour time at a billable rate that covers wages, vehicles and overhead, plus parts with a markup and a trip or dispatch charge. Knowing the cost behind it shows the margin you keep.
It also works as a plumbing job flat rate pricing calculator or a flat rate pricing calculator.
Formula
- Price = hours × billable rate + parts × (1 + markup) + trip charge
- Direct cost = hours × technician cost + parts
- Gross margin = (price − direct cost) ÷ price
Worked example
Using the starting values in the calculator above:
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Expected labour hours | 2.5 |
| Billable labour rate | $125 |
| Parts at cost | $85.00 |
| Parts markup | 50% |
| Trip or dispatch charge | $75.00 |
| Technician cost per hour (wage and burden) | $55.00 |
| Result | Value |
|---|---|
| Flat-rate price | $515 |
| Gross margin | 56.8% |
| Gross profit | $293 |
| Direct cost (labour and parts) | $223 |
How to read the result
Gross margin must also cover unbilled time, vehicles, marketing and office costs, which is why service businesses often target 50% or more.
Base the hours on your average for the task, including diagnosis and clean-up, not your best day.
For planning only. Electrical, gas and refrigerant work must follow current codes and be carried out or checked by a licensed professional.
