What the Photography Business Cost Calculator does
Knowing your cost of doing business (CODB) is the foundation of photography pricing. List every recurring expense, add a salary for yourself, and divide by the sessions you can realistically book to find the minimum you must charge per session.
It also works as a photography business expense tracker or a cost of doing business calculator.
Formula
- Cost per session = monthly expenses ÷ sessions
- Minimum price = (expenses + salary ÷ 12 ÷ (1 − tax)) ÷ sessions

How to read the result
Be realistic about sessions per month; seasonality means busy months must carry quiet ones.
Include equipment replacement as a monthly cost even if you bought the gear years ago; it will need replacing.
