About this tool
What the GPA Calculator does
Grade point average weights each course’s grade points (A = 4.0 down to F = 0) by its credit hours. Adding this term’s quality points to previous ones and dividing by total credits gives the cumulative GPA.
Formula
- Quality points = grade points × credits
- Term GPA = Σ quality points ÷ Σ credits
- Cumulative GPA = (term points + previous GPA × previous credits) ÷ total credits
Worked example
Using the starting values in the calculator above:
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Courses this term | 4 entries |
| Previous cumulative GPA (optional) | 3.2 |
| Previous credits | 30 |
| Result | Value |
|---|---|
| Term GPA | 3.45 |
| Cumulative GPA | 3.28 |
| Credits this term | 14.0 |
| Quality points this term | 48.3 |
How to read the result
Courses with more credits move GPA more; prioritise them when time is tight.
Some schools use different grade point values for plus and minus grades; check your registrar’s scale.
