About this tool

What the Dental Practice Valuation Calculator does

Dental practices are commonly valued as a percentage of annual collections and checked against a multiple of adjusted EBITDA (cash flow after paying a market salary for the dentist work). Buyers then test whether the remaining cash flow comfortably covers the acquisition loan.

It also works as a dental practice acquisition valuation calculator.

Formula

  • Collections value = collections × percentage
  • EBITDA value = adjusted EBITDA × multiple
  • Coverage = adjusted EBITDA ÷ annual loan payments

Worked example

Using the starting values in the calculator above:

Input Value
Annual collections $1,200,000
Value as % of collections 70%
Adjusted EBITDA (after market-rate dentist pay) $260,000
EBITDA multiple 4.5
Acquisition loan rate 8%
Loan term 10
Share of price financed 100%
Result Value
Estimated value (average) $1,005,000
Cash flow ÷ loan payments 1.78x
Collections method $840,000
EBITDA method $1,170,000
Annual loan payments $146,321

How to read the result

Adjust EBITDA for the owner’s personal expenses and pay the dentist work at market rate, or the valuation will be distorted.

Patient count, payer mix, equipment age and lease terms move value as much as the formula.

An estimate for discussion, not a formal valuation.
