About this tool
What the Cloud Infrastructure Cost Estimator does
A cloud bill is mostly compute hours, storage and data transfer. List each instance type with its hourly price, add storage and egress, and apply a commitment discount to see what reserved instances or savings plans would save.
Formula
- Compute = Σ quantity × hourly price × hours
- Storage = GB × price per GB
- Transfer = GB out × price per GB
- Committed = compute × (1 − discount) + storage + transfer
Worked example
Using the starting values in the calculator above:
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Compute | 3 entries |
| Storage | 2,000 GB |
| Storage price | $0.08 |
| Data transfer out | 500 GB |
| Transfer price | $0.09 |
| Commitment discount on compute | 30% |
| Result | Value |
|---|---|
| Monthly cost on demand | $734 |
| Monthly cost with commitment | $575 |
| Annual cost on demand | $8,802 |
| Annual saving from commitment | $1,903 |
| Compute | $529 |
| Storage | $160 |
| Data transfer | $45.00 |
How to read the result
A month averages about 730 hours. Development servers that run only in working hours can use far fewer and cost less.
Commit only to the baseline you are sure to use for the whole term; keep variable demand on demand or autoscaled.
