Favicon Generator
Not one 16 pixel icon, but the six sizes a browser tab, a bookmark, an Android home screen and an iOS home screen each ask for.
- Runs in your browser
- Nothing uploaded
The tool
Design the icon, then download every size at once. The HTML you need appears underneath.
Everything you enter stays on your own machine. Nothing is sent to us or to anyone else, which you can confirm in your browser network tab.
What people use it for
- Producing every favicon size a new site needs in one pass
- Fixing a blurry icon on an Android or iOS home screen
- Checking whether a logo survives being shrunk to a browser tab
- Generating icons for an internal tool or a staging site
- Making a placeholder icon so a build is not missing one at launch
About this tool
Why one file is not enough
A browser tab wants 32 pixels. An Android home screen wants 192 and 512. iOS wants a 180 pixel apple-touch-icon, and it will not use a transparent background, it will composite your icon onto black. Shipping a single favicon.ico and hoping is how sites end up with a blurry smudge on a phone home screen.
Design for 16 pixels first
At tab size you have roughly the detail budget of a single letter. A full wordmark is unreadable there. Use the initials option, or a symbol with one clear silhouette, and check it by squinting at the preview from an arm away. If you cannot tell what it is, neither can anyone else.
Where the files go
Put them in your site root and paste the link tags into the head of every page. On WordPress, Appearance then Customise then Site Identity will handle the basic icon, but the explicit tags give you control over the Android and iOS sizes that the customiser does not set.
About .ico files
Modern browsers read PNG favicons perfectly well, which is why this exports PNG. A .ico file is only needed for very old versions of Internet Explorer, and if those are in your audience you have larger compatibility questions than this tool can answer.

Questions
Questions about this tool
The things clients actually want to know — costs, timelines, ownership and what happens after launch.
16, 32, 48, 180, 192 and 512 pixels. That covers browser tabs, bookmarks, the iOS apple-touch-icon and the Android manifest sizes.
No, and you almost certainly do not need one. Every current browser reads PNG favicons. A .ico matters only for very old Internet Explorer.
iOS ignores transparency and composites onto black. Switch the transparent background off and pick a solid background colour for the apple-touch size.
Your site root, with the link tags from this page pasted into the head. The tool shows the exact tags.
No. Your browser draws each size on a canvas and saves it locally.
