About this tool
What the SNAP Benefits Estimator does
SNAP benefits are the maximum allotment for the household size minus 30% of net income. Net income is gross income less a 20% earned income deduction, the standard deduction, dependent care and an excess shelter deduction. Most households must also pass gross and net income limits.
It also works as a SNAP benefits eligibility estimator or a food stamps calculator.
Formula
- Net income = gross − 20% of earnings − standard deduction − dependent care − excess shelter
- Excess shelter = shelter costs − 50% of income after other deductions (capped)
- Benefit = maximum allotment − 30% of net income
