About this tool

What the Print Pricing Calculator does

A print quote combines a one-off setup cost with costs that scale with quantity: materials, machine time and finishing. Because setup is spread across the run, price per unit falls as quantity rises. This calculator builds the quote and applies your markup.

Formula

  • Job cost = quantity × (materials + finishing) + setup + machine hours × hourly rate
  • Quote = job cost × (1 + markup)
  • Price per unit = quote ÷ quantity

Worked example

Using the starting values in the calculator above:

Input Value
Quantity 500
Materials per unit $0.40
Setup and proofing $60.00
Machine time 1.5 hours
Machine hourly rate $45.00
Finishing per unit $0.10
Markup 60%
Result Value
Quote price $604
Price per unit $1.21
Job cost $378
Profit $227
Cost per unit $0.76

How to read the result

Quote a few quantities at once. Customers often order more when they see the unit price fall.

Track actual machine time after each job; underestimated make-ready time is the most common reason print jobs lose money.
