About this tool
What the Last-mile Delivery Cost Calculator does
The last mile, from local depot to the customer’s door, is often the most expensive part of delivery. Cost per delivery depends on route costs (driver, vehicle, fuel) and how many successful deliveries each route completes; failed first attempts add repeat trips.
Formula
- Route cost = driver + vehicle + miles × fuel per mile
- Successful deliveries = attempts × (1 − failure rate)
- Cost per delivery = route cost ÷ successful deliveries
Worked example
Using the starting values in the calculator above:
| Input | Value |
|---|---|

| Fuel cost per mile | $0.25 |
| Deliveries attempted per route | 120 |

How to read the result
Stop density drives cost: more deliveries per mile is the single biggest lever on cost per parcel.
Delivery time windows, notifications and parcel lockers reduce failed attempts.
