About this tool

What the Reorder Point Calculator does

The reorder point is the stock level at which a new order should be placed so it arrives before stock runs out. It equals expected demand during the supplier’s lead time plus safety stock. Comparing it with current stock tells you when to order.

It also works as a inventory reorder point calculator.

Formula

  • Reorder point = daily demand × lead time + safety stock
  • Inventory position = on hand + on order
  • Days until reorder = (position − reorder point) ÷ daily demand

Worked example

Using the starting values in the calculator above:

Input Value
Average daily demand 120 units
Lead time 14 days
Safety stock 400 units
Current stock on hand 2,800
Already on order 0
Result Value
Reorder point 2,080
Status Above reorder point
Days until reorder 6.0
Inventory position 2,800

How to read the result

Use inventory position (including stock already on order), not just stock on hand, to avoid ordering twice.

Recalculate reorder points when demand trends or supplier lead times change.
