What the Design Fee Calculator does
Architects and interior designers charge in three common ways: a percentage of construction cost, a rate per square foot, or hourly. Comparing all three for the same project shows which suits the client and the risk the designer carries.
Formula
- Percentage fee = construction budget × fee %
- Area fee = area × fee per sq ft
- Hourly fee = estimated hours × rate

How to read the result
Percentage fees rise with the budget, so clients may worry about incentives; fixed fees per stage give more certainty.
Define the stages covered (concept, planning, technical drawings, site visits) because fee differences often come from scope.
