About this tool
What the Delivery Route Time Calculator does
A delivery route takes driving time plus time at each stop for parking, handover and paperwork. Adding loading time at the depot and comparing with shift length shows whether a route is realistic and how many stops a driver can make in a day.
It also works as a delivery time calculator.
Formula
- Driving time = distance ÷ average speed
- Stop time = stops × minutes per stop
- Route time = driving + stops + loading + breaks
Worked example
Using the starting values in the calculator above:
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Route distance | 60 miles |
| Average driving speed | 22 mph |
| Stops | 45 |
| Minutes per stop | 4 |
| Loading and depot time | 30 minutes |
| Shift length | 9 hours |
| Breaks | 45 minutes |
| Result | Value |
|---|---|
| Total route time | 7.0 |
| Shift check | Fits in the shift |
| Driving time | 2.7 |
| Time at stops | 3.0 |
| Maximum stops in the shift | 75 |
How to read the result
Urban routes spend more time at stops than driving; shaving a minute per stop through better parcel sorting adds many stops per day.
