Calculators

Loan Repayment Calculator

The arithmetic a lender uses, with an honest note about what it leaves out.

  • Runs in your browser
  • Nothing uploaded

The tool

Enter the amount, the annual rate and the term.

Everything you enter stays on your own machine. Nothing is sent to us or to anyone else, which you can confirm in your browser network tab.

What people use it for

  • Comparing what two rates cost over the full term
  • Checking a monthly payment before an application
  • Seeing how much a shorter term saves in interest
  • Estimating a business loan repayment
  • Sanity-checking a figure a lender has quoted

About this tool

What it calculates

The standard amortising repayment: equal monthly payments that cover interest and capital so the balance reaches zero at the end of the term. Early payments are mostly interest and later ones mostly capital, which is why overpaying early saves far more than overpaying late.

What the total interest figure tells you

It is usually the number that changes a decision. A modest difference in rate or term looks small monthly and large in total, and seeing both at once is the point of running the calculation before committing rather than afterwards.

What this leaves out

Arrangement fees, valuation fees, early repayment charges, insurance the lender requires, and any change in rate. A variable or fixed-then-reverting rate will not behave like this after the fixed period. For a real comparison, ask for the APRC, which is designed to include the costs a bare rate calculation cannot see.

Not financial advice

This is arithmetic. Whether a loan is affordable or sensible depends on circumstances no calculator knows about, and a regulated adviser is the right person to ask about that.

Questions

Questions about this tool

The things clients actually want to know — costs, timelines, ownership and what happens after launch.

No. Only the capital, the rate and the term. Ask a lender for the APRC, which includes fees.

It assumes the rate stays the same. A variable or reverting rate will behave differently after the initial period.

No, it is arithmetic. Whether a loan suits your circumstances is a question for a regulated adviser.

Yes, the calculation is the same for any amortising loan.

No. It runs in your browser.
