Unix Timestamp Converter

Paste either a timestamp or a date and get every other representation back at once.

  • Runs in your browser
  • Nothing uploaded

The tool

Paste a timestamp or a date. Leave it empty to see the current time in every format.

Everything you enter stays on your own machine. Nothing is sent to us or to anyone else, which you can confirm in your browser network tab.

What people use it for

  • Reading a timestamp out of a log or an API response
  • Checking when a token or a cache entry expires
  • Converting a date into the format a database column wants
  • Settling whether a value is in seconds or milliseconds
  • Comparing a server timestamp against a reported incident time

About this tool

Seconds or milliseconds

Unix timestamps come in both, and mixing them up is the most common timestamp bug there is. Ten digits is seconds, which is what most APIs and databases use. Thirteen digits is milliseconds, which is what JavaScript produces. Treat one as the other and your date lands in 1970 or somewhere around the year 55000. This tool decides from the length rather than making you remember.

UTC and local time

A timestamp has no time zone. It is a count of seconds since the start of 1970 in UTC, and the zone only appears when you format it for a human. The local line here uses your browser zone, which is frequently not the zone your server runs in. That gap explains most of the “the date is wrong by a few hours” reports in any system that logs timestamps and displays them somewhere else.

Reading it in a log

Logs and JSON payloads are where raw timestamps usually turn up. Copy the number, paste it here and you have the moment in a form you can compare with a support ticket or a deployment record. It is a small thing that saves opening a console every time.

Questions

Questions about this tool

The things clients actually want to know — costs, timelines, ownership and what happens after launch.

By length. Ten digits is treated as seconds and thirteen as milliseconds, which is the convention every system follows.

UTC for the ISO line, and your browser zone for the local line. A timestamp itself carries no zone at all.

Yes. Paste a date in a form your browser recognises, such as 2026-09-24 14:30, and it converts the other way.

Because they are in different zones. The timestamp is the same instant; only the formatting differs.

No, the conversion happens in your browser.
