CSV to JSON Converter
The parsing most quick scripts get wrong, done correctly, without uploading a client export.
- Runs in your browser
- Nothing uploaded
The tool
Choose a direction and paste your data. Everything is converted in your browser.
Everything you enter stays on your own machine. Nothing is sent to us or to anyone else, which you can confirm in your browser network tab.
What people use it for
- Turning a client spreadsheet export into JSON for an import script
- Converting an API response into a spreadsheet for a colleague
- Checking whether a CSV is malformed before importing it
- Reshaping data without opening a code editor
- Working with personal data you would rather not upload
About this tool
Why splitting on commas is not enough
The obvious approach, splitting each line on commas, breaks the moment a value contains one. "Smith, John" becomes two fields and every column after it shifts. Add a quote inside a quoted value, or a newline inside a cell, and a naive parser produces silent nonsense rather than an error. This one reads the format properly, which is the difference between a conversion you can trust and one you have to check by hand.
Going the other way
Converting JSON to CSV has the mirror problem. Any value containing a comma, a quote or a newline has to be quoted, and quotes inside it doubled. Skipping that is what turns an export into a support ticket a week later, when somebody opens it in a spreadsheet and the columns have moved.
Uneven rows and missing keys
Real data is rarely tidy. When converting to CSV, every key found anywhere in the data becomes a column, and rows missing that key get an empty cell rather than a shifted row. When converting from CSV, a row with fewer fields than headers fills the rest with empty strings instead of failing.
Where this is worth using
Mostly on data you should not be uploading. A customer export, an order list, a mailing list: all of it is personal data, and pasting it into an online converter is a disclosure whether or not anything goes wrong. This runs locally, so there is nothing to disclose.

Questions
Questions about this tool
The things clients actually want to know — costs, timelines, ownership and what happens after launch.
Yes, and quotes inside quoted values, and newlines inside cells. That parsing is the reason this exists.
They are filled with empty strings rather than shifting the remaining values, which is what a naive split does.
Not currently. Some European exports use semicolons; replace them with commas first.
No. Both directions run in your browser, which is the point when the data is a customer list.
There is a generous cap to keep the page responsive. Split very large files and convert the pieces.
