About this tool
What the Google Ads Quality Score Calculator does
Google Ads rewards relevant ads with lower costs. Under the widely taught simplified auction model, the price you pay per click falls in proportion to your Quality Score, so moving from a 5 to an 8 can cut cost per click substantially. This calculator applies that model to your current numbers.
Formula
- Simplified model: actual CPC ∝ 1 ÷ Quality Score
- New CPC = current CPC × current score ÷ target score
- Extra clicks = current spend ÷ new CPC − current clicks
Worked example
Using the starting values in the calculator above:
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Quality Score | 5 |
| Target Quality Score | 8 |
| Current average CPC | $2.50 |
| Monthly clicks | 2,000 |
| Result | Value |
|---|---|
| Estimated CPC at target score | $1.56 |
| CPC change | -37.5% |
| Monthly saving at the same clicks | $1,875 |
| Extra clicks for the same spend | 1,200 |
How to read the result
The model is a simplification. Google’s real auction also weighs bids, ad assets, the search context and competitors, so treat the result as the direction and rough size of the effect.
Quality Score has three visible components: expected click-through rate, ad relevance and landing page experience. Improving the weakest one usually moves the score fastest.
Limits to keep in mind
- Quality Score is a diagnostic reported per keyword, not a direct auction input.
- Gains are smaller in very competitive auctions where bids dominate.

Questions about this tool
The things clients actually want to know — costs, timelines, ownership and what happens after launch.
Google rates each keyword from 1 to 10 based on expected click-through rate, ad relevance and landing page experience compared with other advertisers. The exact formula is not published.
Generally yes. Higher-quality ads can win the same position at a lower price, which is why the simplified model divides cost by score.
Seven or above is usually considered good. Scores of four or below suggest a mismatch between keyword, ad and landing page.
