About this tool
What the Accounts Receivable Aging Calculator does
An ageing schedule groups unpaid invoices by how long they have been outstanding. Older invoices are less likely to be paid, so applying a higher expected-loss rate to each older bucket produces a realistic allowance for bad debts.
It also works as a AR aging calculator.
Formula
- Share in bucket = bucket amount ÷ total receivables
- Allowance = Σ bucket amount × expected loss rate
- Expected collectable = total − allowance
Worked example
Using the starting values in the calculator above:
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Receivables by age | 5 entries |
| Result | Value |
|---|---|
| Bad debt allowance | $13,900 |
| Share overdue | 40.0% |
| Total receivables | $300,000 |
| Expected collectable | $286,100 |
| Allowance as share of receivables | 4.6% |
How to read the result
The first row is treated as not yet due when working out the share overdue, so keep current invoices in the top row.
Base loss rates on your own history of write-offs by age where possible; the defaults are illustrative only.
