About this tool
What the Crown and Bridge Cost Calculator does
Crown and bridge profitability depends on the lab fee for the chosen material, chairside materials, the dentist and assistant time involved and the fee charged. In-house milling changes the cost structure. This calculator shows the cost and margin per unit.
It also works as a crown bridge material cost calculator.
Formula
- Cost per unit = lab fee + chairside materials + chair hours × chair cost
- Profit = fee − cost
- Case profit = profit per unit × units
Worked example
Using the starting values in the calculator above:
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Units in the case | 3 |
| Lab fee per unit | $280 |
| Chairside materials per unit | $35.00 |
| Chair time per unit | 1.2 hours |
| Chair cost per hour (overhead and staff) | $220 |
| Fee per unit | $1,300 |
| Result | Value |
|---|---|
| Profit per unit | $721 |
| Margin per unit | 55.5% |
| Cost per unit | $579 |
| Profit on the case | $2,163 |
| Lab fee as share of fee | 21.5% |
How to read the result
Remakes are expensive; track remake rates by lab and material, not only the headline lab fee.
Chair time is often the hidden cost; efficient scanning and seating protocols lift margin.
