About this tool
What the Hiring Timeline Calculator does
A hire moves through approval, sourcing, screening, interviews, offer and the candidate’s notice period. Adding the expected days for each stage gives time to fill (until offer acceptance) and time to start, and a realistic start date to plan around.
Formula
- Time to fill = sum of stage days before the notice period
- Time to start = sum of all stage days
- Start date = opening date + time to start
Worked example
Using the starting values in the calculator above:
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Date the role opens | 2026-11-02 |
| Stages | 6 entries |
| Result | Value |
|---|---|
| Expected start date | 2027-01-10 |
| Time to start | 69 days |
| Time to fill (to accepted offer) | 41 days |
| Expected offer date | 2026-12-13 |
How to read the result
Interview scheduling is where most hiring time is lost; block interviewer time in advance and keep stages short.
Senior candidates often have longer notice periods; build them in before promising a start date.
