Bulk AMP Validator

Line-level errors from the official AMP validator, for many pages at once, with the pairing between AMP and canonical pages checked too.

  • Fetched live by our server
  • Nothing stored

The tool

Paste up to 50 URLs, one per line, or switch to pasting AMP HTML.

Loading the tool…

The URL you enter is sent to our server, which requests that page from the public internet and returns the response to your browser for analysis. We do not store the URL or the response, and we do not add either to analytics. Requests come from our server, not from your device or from the crawlers being simulated, so a site that blocks data-centre addresses or verifies crawlers by IP may answer differently.

What this tool checks

  • Validity against the AMP HTML specification, using the official validator maintained by the AMP project
  • Every error and warning, with line, column, error code and a link to the relevant part of the specification
  • Whether a non-AMP page links to an AMP version with rel=amphtml, which is then validated
  • Whether the AMP page names a canonical page, and whether that page links back with rel=amphtml
  • HTTP status of each AMP URL

How to read the results

  1. Check the summary for how many pages passed and failed.
  2. Open a failing page and fix errors in line order. One missing required tag often causes several errors further down.
  3. Use the specification link next to each error for the exact rule.
  4. Check the pairing column. An AMP page whose canonical does not link back is not discovered as the AMP version of that page.
  5. Export the error list to share with whoever maintains the templates.

About this tool

What the AMP validator checks

AMP pages must follow a restricted form of HTML: a required set of tags in the head, the AMP runtime script, AMP components in place of some standard elements, inline CSS within a size limit, and no author JavaScript outside sanctioned components. An invalid AMP page is treated as an ordinary page, so the AMP features you built it for do not apply.

This tool uses the official validator published by the AMP project, the same engine behind the AMP browser extension and the command-line validator. It runs in your browser after the page HTML is fetched by our server.

Validating many pages at once

Paste up to 50 URLs. Three are processed at a time, failed fetches are retried once, and the progress bar counts real completed pages. You can stop at any time and keep the results gathered so far. If you paste the URL of a normal page that links to an AMP version with rel="amphtml", the tool follows that link and validates the AMP version instead.

Pairing AMP and canonical pages

When an AMP page is an alternative version of a normal page, the two must point to each other:

<!-- on the canonical page -->
<link rel="amphtml" href="https://example.com/article/amp/">

<!-- on the AMP page -->
<link rel="canonical" href="https://example.com/article/">

A standalone AMP page, with no separate normal version, uses its own URL as the canonical. The tool fetches the canonical page and confirms that it links back to the exact AMP URL, reporting a missing link, a link to a different AMP URL, or an unreachable canonical page.

Fixing common errors

  • Mandatory tag missing. Usually the AMP runtime script, the amp-boilerplate style, the viewport tag or the canonical link. Copy them from the AMP boilerplate in the documentation.
  • Disallowed tag or attribute. Replace img with amp-img where required, remove custom scripts, and move event handlers into AMP actions.
  • Missing component script. Each AMP component such as amp-carousel needs its own script tag in the head.
  • Stylesheet too long. Inline CSS is limited, so remove unused rules.

Is AMP still worth it?

Google removed AMP as a requirement for Top Stories when page experience became a ranking signal, and it ranks AMP pages like any other page. Many sites have retired AMP in favour of fast standard pages. If you are keeping AMP, keep it valid: an invalid AMP page delivers none of its benefits. If you are removing it, redirect the AMP URLs to their canonical pages and remove the rel="amphtml" links.

Pasting HTML

For a template that is not yet public, switch to pasted HTML. Nothing is sent to our server in this mode: the validator runs entirely in your browser on the text you paste. Line numbers in the results refer to the pasted text.

Limits and honest caveats

  • The validator is loaded from cdn.ampproject.org when a test starts. If your network, browser extension or security policy blocks it, the tool says so and validates nothing.
  • Validator messages are written in English by the AMP project. Codes and specification links are shown with every message.
  • Pages are fetched from our server as Googlebot Smartphone. A page that answers our server differently from real visitors will be validated as our server received it.
  • Valid AMP does not guarantee any special treatment in Google Search. Google no longer requires AMP for Top Stories, and AMP pages are ranked like other pages.

AMP validator from cdn.ampproject.org — Your browser downloads the official validator script from the AMP project CDN, which sees your IP address like any other script request. Validation then runs in your browser.

What people use it for

  • Validating every AMP template after a theme or plugin update
  • Checking a list of article URLs before a content migration
  • Confirming canonical and amphtml links point at each other
  • Debugging pasted AMP HTML from a template before deploying it
  • Exporting a line-by-line error list for developers

Questions

Questions about this tool

The things clients actually want to know — costs, timelines, ownership and what happens after launch.

The official AMP validator published by the AMP project at cdn.ampproject.org, loaded into your browser when the test starts.

The messages come from the AMP validator itself, which is written in English. Each message also shows its error code and a link to the specification.

The tool stops and tells you. It never shows a pass or fail it did not get from the validator.

Paste its HTML instead. URL validation needs a page our server can reach on the public internet.

Not directly. Google ranks AMP pages like other pages and no longer requires AMP for Top Stories. Validity matters because invalid AMP loses the AMP features.
